Why You Should Not Always Train From Bad Postions

Far too many krav maga schools spend too much time training from the negative. Most krav maga facilities have made this type of training their bread and butter. While there is nothing wrong with training from the negative, and it should be done, it just shouldn't take up the bulk of your training. If you look online you will see krav maga practitioners training from ridiculous positions such as back mounted with a gun to the back of the head. If someone allowed themselves to get into a position like that the likelihood of them escaping is pretty slim. Our emphasis at BR Krav Maga along with the rest of the Fit To Fight Republic is to focus on not ending up in those really bad places. If you always train in those negative positions then the odds are that's where you are going to find yourself. It's not uncommon to see an instructor at most krav maga gyms to always tell their students to allow themselves to get into a really bad position. By doing this, often you are forcing them into going into a position that goes against there intuition, this is just going to make them worse, your going to make them less capable of dealing with violence situations because your training them to wait until things get as bad as they can possibly get, so our emphasis at BR Krav Maga along with the rest of the Fit To Fight Affiliation is to be first if possible, control variables when you can, and always respond as quickly as possible and most importantly try to avoid those absolute worst case scenarios. If we end up there then we will deal with it but we spend most of our time on trying not to be there.
